Writers do a lot of getting ready to think about focusing on things. Anything that can help firewall our attention is appealing, and there are many concentration-enhancement apps. I'll be reviewing several for Mac and iOS in future posts. They're always fun to play with, but I'd like to share one that works for me: Ocean Waves, from Katsura Shareware.

Add this to Tech Lessons You Learn the Hard Way: before you update an iOS app, always check the rating and read recent reviews.

It's easy to get excited when there's an update for a favorite app, since we all want to have the latest version of everything. But sometimes that can backfire, and an "update" may take away features you depend on, or drastically change an interface you love.
